Welcome to back for another Transformation Tuesday series! Today we’re hearing from Patricia!
Q: When did you realize that you had a weight problem?
A: I’m not sure when it started, maybe as a kid i was called fat by the other kids. My mom was sweet she would say I was just growing.
Q: What made you decide to do something about it?
A: when I realized how big I actually was, 280lbs
Q: When did you start?
A: after college but my major weigh loss started in 2012
Q: How much weight have you lost?
A: over 100lbs
Q: What is/was your goal?
A: to be healthy and able to run with out getting out of breath.
Q: What weight loss program or eating modifications do you follow?
A: only veggies and protein with minimal fats from avocado and peanut butter
Q: Can you explain your basic program?
A: I ate less than 1000 calories a day in veggies and protein and I worked out for 2 to 3 hours doing martial arts – boxing, kickboxing, Muay thai
Q: Do you exercise?
A: yes, eating healthy made me lose weight but working out gave me muscles and strength
Q: How often and how much?
A: 2-3 hours 4-5 times a week and when I could I even started running
Q: Where and when do you exercise?
A: after work at BC BJJ MMA now known as ECF in Lynbrook, New York
Q: What exercises work for you?
A: martial arts helped me gain muscles and lose weight, I also gained a skill, confidence and friends. I also gained respect for a sport I once only viewed as barbaric.
Q: What are your trigger foods?
A: cheese and bread, they bloat me but I love them lol
Q. How do you cope with temptation?
A: quitting cold turkey is hard but it’s the only way that works for me, I would either eat a whole box of cookies or mom at all. My self control was only working at extremes.
Q: Have you ever gotten discouraged? What do you do about it?
A: of course, everyone hits plateaus and the best way around them is changing something, a run in the morning or stopping your food intake at 7pm to give your body a rest or a night out dancing.
Q: How did you feel about looking at photos of yourself? Has that changed?
A: you will always notice your imperfection but it’s easier to deal with people publishing photos immediately onto facebook when you know you look better than you used to
Q: What is the best benefit of losing weight for you?
A: shopping for clothes and packing for trips are both easier
Q: Do people ask you for advice? What do you tell them?
A: all the time, I tell them that anyone can do it and if they ever feel discouraged they can call me, I’ve been there and I know
Q: What have you been able to do that you couldn’t have done before?
A: run, wear a bikini, wear a backless dress.
